Michels Construction Internship

A week after graduating with my bachelors I was lined up to fly to Wisconsin for Michels’ intern orientation. After that I was designated to Missouri as a Project Manager for their dike degradation project part of their Marine Construction Division along hundreds of miles of the Missouri River. Initially working in Miami Missouri building dikes and revetments then eventually moving and doing the same work in Portland Missouri before moving to Dundee Missouri for Obstruction Removal.

Through my time at the Marine Construction division of Michels physical labor was paramount in my learning experience; including building tow, setting shoreline wires, repairing lines, tying barges and general Deck-handing. While also gaining vast experience in Project Management through daily reports sent to the Army Core of Engineers keeping barge inventory / logs / labor hours / equipment hours, stone placement summaries tracking material tonnages / structure numbers / barge draft sheets, stone gradation tracking, and crew payroll.
